Dear editor:
The South Simcoe Streams Network invites you to bring a friend and volunteer at any of the following Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon. Snack and bulk water on site. Gloves and shovels are available, but bring your own if you can. Sturdy shoes, long sleeve top and long pants along with a jacket and hat is recommended. Volunteer time counts as community hours for high school students (just bring your form).
• Saturday, September 28th – Boyne River, Adjala–Tosorontio: It’s fall, the deer will soon be moving to their wintering grounds and we would appreciate your assistance with installing deer fencing and adding potted trees along the Boyne River located on the west side of the 3rd Concession of Tosorontio just north of the 5th Side Road (west of Hwy 50 & north of 89; approx. 10 minutes northwest of Alliston).
RSVP to John Herring (SSSN member & Chair, Adjala-Tosorontio Streams Team) at john.herring4909@sympatico.ca
• Saturday, September 28th – Pine River, Essa: Reminder to those already signed up that planting native stock, trail mulching and Essa’s Pine River canoe launch is happening near the LeClair Soccer Field in Angus. (Note-be aware that poison ivy has been sighted in the area, and a wash station will be available as a precaution).
RSVP to Athena at apiskipos@essatwonship.on.ca or 705 424-9770 ext. 104
• Saturday, October 5th – Fraser Creek, Bradford–West Gwillimbury: This broad floodplain area along the Fraser Creek in Bradford by Trailside Dr. south of Home Depot has seen lots of trees added, but there is plenty room for more! Please help plant and mulch a variety of native potted stock along the Fraser Creek as we create an urban forest that benefits both the community and the creek. RSVP to silvia@nottawasaga.com or call 705 435-1540 ext. 102.
We hope you can join us. Watch for a follow-up for more fall upcoming opportunities.
