Support Lions Walk for Dog Guides

September 27, 2017   ·   0 Comments

The Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides is a national charitable foundation that was created in 1983 by the Lions of Canada. Its mission is to assist Canadians with medical or physical disabilities by providing the Dog Guides at no cost.
The Tottenham & District Lions Club has supported this cause for 24 years.
I’m sure that we all think of Dog Guides as sight for the blind, but there are many more ways these lovely animals are helping the disabled. There are now six types of Dog Guides. There are Hearing Ear Dog Guides for the deaf or hard of hearing; Special Skills Dog Guides for people with medical or physical disabilities; Seizure response Dog Guides for people who have epilepsy; Autism Assistance Dog Guides for children 3-18 years of age with autism; Diabetic Alert Dog Guides for people who have type 1 diabetes with hypoglycemic unawareness, and of course Canine Vision Dog Guides for people who are blind or visually impaired. Learn more about Dog Guides on our Facebook Page @ fb.me/tottenhamdogguides.
It costs approximately $25,000 to raise and train each Dog Guide. The Lions Foundation of Canada does not receive any government funding and relies on donations and fundraising. 100% of the funds raised go directly to raising, training and providing the Dog Guides at no cost to Canadians with disabilities.
The Tottenham & District Lions Club is proud to host along with our national sponsor Pet Valu, the 24th annual Lions Walk for Dog Guides on Sunday, Oct. 1. Pet Valu provides most of the materials used to promote the walk and their help is greatly appreciated. The walk starts from the Tottenham Community & Fitness Centre. Registration is at 9 a.m. and the walk goes at 10 a.m. There will be refreshments served, a kids colouring contest and “doggie gift bags” for walk participants.
We invite you to be part of our fundraising walk. It is a pet friendly, family friendly event and there is no registration fee. We simply ask that participants raise donations. You can find pledge forms at most of your local businesses in Tottenham and Beeton or contact us at TottenhamLionsClub@gmail.com if you need anything.
We hope to see you there!
