On March 6, Nottawasaga OPP conducted mechanical inspections of local taxi’s.
Taxi drivers were required to bring their vehicles to the Nottawasaga Detachment and members of the Nottawasaga Traffic Enforcement Unit assisted by the Ontario Provincial Police Highway Safety Division conducted inspections resulting in four taxi’s being removed for various mechanical defects.
The Ontario Tobacco Enforcement Unit and New Tecumseth By-Law Enforcement were also present to ensure the taxi companies were in compliance with the Ontario Tobacco Act and municipal law.
Nottawasaga Ontario Provincial Police laid 7 Highway Traffic Act and 3 Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act charges as a result of their inspections.
On March 7, police met with owners and drivers of the failed taxi’s to assist them in getting their vehicles back to the required safety standards.
The Ontario Provincial Police are committed to keeping our highways and roads safe by removing unfit vehicles from our roads.
