A suspicious house fire in the south end of Tottenham has resulted in the death of three people and there is now a criminal investigation underway.

Police initially went to a home on Pyne Hills Court, an upscale subdivision just south of Tottenham, just after 4:00 p.m. on Dec. 26, to perform a well-being check. The subdivision, located just north of the 2nd Line of New Tecumseth, has one main street with 18 homes.

When officers arrived, a fire was discovered inside the home. Firefighters and paramedics were called.

Police said two deceased persons were located in the home. A third person was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead.

The causes of death have not been determined, pending investigation. A police statement said there is no threat to public safety.

The incident is under investigation by the OPP’s Central Region Crime Unit, the OPP Forensic Identification Services, the Office of the Fire Marshal, and the province’s Chief Coroner’s Office.

An investigation was underway for several days after the initial call. Police and members of the Office of the Fire Marshal could be seen entering the home with the area blocked off by police emergency tape. An OPP officer guarded the location in front of the house.

The incident is being described as a ‘very unexpected tragedy’ by a relative who has started a GoFundMe page.

The page also lists the names of the victims as Christopher and Adrienne Nesich, and their nine-year-old son Matteo.

There has been no cause of death announced yet.

Two separate GoFundMe pages have been created to help the family with funeral costs as well as funds to help an older son who was not at the residence when the incident occurred.
