Three games left in regular season for Hornets

The Alliston Junior C Hornets hosted the Stayner Siskins at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre on Jan. 22. The Hornets hammered the visitors leaving with a 9-2 win – number 32 for the season. There are only three games left in the Hornets regular season schedule.

The Georgian Mid Ontario Hockey League is wrapping up the regular season schedule and the Alliston Junior C Hornets will easily win the season.
After Friday (Jan. 22) night’s win against the Stayner Siskins the Hornets left the ice with 66 points – 25 points ahead of the second place Huntsville Otters.
There are three games left on the schedule for the Alliston squad before heading into the league playoffs.
Friday night’s game against the Siskins started out as a hockey game but by the time the third period rolled around it looked more like a regular practice for the Alliston squad when they scored four third period goals and rarely allowed the Stayner team to cross the blue line.
“The first period was a little shaky, we were running around a little,” said Hornets defenceman Matt Taylor who figured in on three assists for the night. “The coach talked to us in the room and we settled down in our own end and did our own jobs and it worked out. We were working hard, getting on the pucks, doing the little things right and the pucks were bouncing our way.”
The game was tied at two at the end of the first period but from there the Hornets kept hammering and wore the Stayner squad down scoring three unanswered goals in the second frame and finishing off with the four third period goals.
“We didn’t come out of the gates too hot but we stuck with it and I think we played a pretty good game,” said Hornets forward Stephen Nosad who picked up four points with a hat trick and one assist. “We came out hard in the third and we executed all of our systems.”
With 32 wins this season the Hornets have dominated the league, but Nosad said they will keep up the good work through the playoffs.
“We don’t talk about it too much, but keeping the momentum going in the playoffs is obviously our goal. These games a huge just to get good habits going in the playoffs. Keep the pucks deep, learn the systems. The power play and the penalty kill – they all add up in the playoffs.”
The Hornets will be in Schomberg tonight (Jan. 28) to take on the Cougars.
They will be back on home ice on Friday, Jan. 29, to host the Caledon Golden Hawks.
That game will get underway at 7:30 p.m.
They will play their final game of the regular season on Sunday (Jan. 31) when the host the Schomberg Cougars.
The puck drop is slated for 6:30 p.m.
