A report on Adjala-Tosorontio’s dog licensing program had one councillor wondering if more canvassing of dog owners in the township should be done.
Karl Korpela, Director of Building and Enforcement Services, reported that almost 1,200 dog tags had been sold during the first three months of 2013. About 1,600 tags were sold during all of 2012.
“I often wonder if a lot of the dogs in the township go hiding when it comes to the selling of licenses. I see three or four dogs at a lot of properties. I think that we may be only selling licenses for half of these dogs,” he said.
Korpela said that Adjala, based on its population, has a higher than normal level of tag sales.
“And we check on people who we find don’t have license for their dogs. We found a hundred people last year who didn’t have tags for their dogs and we were able to get 75% of them to pay for their tags.”
The township answered 31 calls during the first three months of 2013 about dogs. Ten were about dogs trespassing while four were about barking dogs.
