Tottenham Legion hosts family scavenger hunt

October 9, 2015   ·   0 Comments

Two weekends ago, during Legion Week, the Tottenham Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion (329) held a Family Scavenger Hunt – that was chock-full of adventure and history.
Participants started and finished at the Legion on Richmond Street East, and were given a set of instructions guiding them to each of the stops on the hunt, with additional clues hidden at each location.
Organized by Debbie Hill, the event was, “Not a race!” and family members were reminded to have fun along the way.
Bonus questions were also offered, in case there was a tie – at each site participants received a stamp, stamps that were counted to determine the team with the highest score.
Questions such as:
• I’m here to entertain you, what am I?
• I’m a piece of fabric rectangular in shape with a distinctive design, what am I?
• I stand in front of this building, locate me, answer the question, then proceed to the next location.
• I’m a tool made of wood and steel, what am I?
• I’m small, flat and pointed, you can hold me in your hand, I’m used for spreading, what am I?
• Look for something you wouldn’t normally find here, but in the wild, what am I?
• I’m oval or round in shape, come in different colours and used as food, what am I?
• I follow a sequence of steps here, where am I?
• I was an establishment that was built here. I could be booked and could accommodate you, what was I?
• I’m an apparatus for cooking or heating, what am I?
• I enable the bearer access to my service, what am I?
• I’m majestic, very loyal and have strong family ties, not to mention like to splash my feet here, what am I?
• I have a panoramic view of the town. If I see you, you can see me. When you see me, the answer to the question will be where you are standing, answer the question then proceed to the next location?
• I am a series of bars or steps between upright lengths of wood, metal or rope, what am I?
• The town was named after me, Who am I?
• I can be used for food or to grow food, what am I?
• I’m a listening device with a small disk that is connected to two tubes connected to ear pieces, what am I?
• I was made here where am I?
• I’m rather large and painted on a wall. My name can be associated with a season. What am I?
• I provide valuable information, find me and find your final destination.
• What happened on June 8th 1895 ?
• I. B. Noble was known for having what?
• Peonies planted down to the laneway were moved to make way for a curve in the road where am I?
Only two families took part in the scavenger hunt – which is a shame, based on how much work went into planning it, and how much fun it was.
Both families reported having a great time, reporting it was “great to spend a beautiful Saturday morning outside with the children, learning about Tottenham’s historic places and faces”.
