With the start of the Greater Metro Hockey League’s opening week, the Tottenham Steam is putting the final line-up together for the 2014 roster.
The Steam is one of the new entries in the GMHL this season and will be playing their inaugural season at the Tottenham Community and Fitness Centre.
The squad will be holding their final try-outs on August 25 to 28 before finalizing the roster to start the season.
The team recently announced the acquisition of forward Brandon Gaudette and defenceman David Savery of Angus, Ontario and New Jersey native, forward Steve Atkinson.
The GMHL has expanded this season with 24 entries now in the League schedule.
Beginning in 2006 with seven teams, the League has grown each season with 2013 / 2014 season a banner year with six new teams signing up.
The Seguin Huskies will be returning this season as the defending champions after wrapping up last season on top and claiming the Russel cup for the League title.
The Alliston Coyotes will also be returning in their second season in the League after first joining in 2013 / 2014 and playing their season at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre in Alliston. The Coyotes had a successful first year ending the season in the number seven spot with a 30–12 record for the season.
The GMHL season gets underway the first week of September.
The Steam will play their home opener at the Tottenham arena on Saturday, September 6, against the Bradford Bulls. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
The Coyotes will open their season with a home game on Thursday, September 11, when they host Halton.
That game is schedule for 7:30 p.m.
