The Town of New Tecumseth has marked a milestone in its history with the opening of the new Town Hall.
The project, which has been several years in the making, finally came to fruition when town staff moved from the current Wellington Street East administration building to the new facility from May 31 to June 3.
The new building opened for business on Monday, June 3.
With the main entrance of the new building facing Tupper Street, the address for the new Town Hall is 24 Tupper Street West.
Town Council acknowledged that the Council meeting of May 27 will be the last one held in what is now the old council chamber.
“Tonight, May 27, 2024, marks the final council meeting that will be held in these council chambers at 10 Wellington Street East,” New Tecumseth Mayor Richard Norcross said at the start of the May 27 council meeting. “Over the past five decades there have been many meetings, conversations, challenges, and celebrations held in this room. While the faces around the table have changed, and the issues and celebrations have varied, we have always respected the democratic process, the opinions and thoughts of one another, and the community spirit that has filled this room. To each sitting council member, staff, our community members in the audience tonight, and those who came before us, we thank you for your service, collaboration, and passion that has contributed to New Tecumseth being the amazing community that we are, and the amazing community that we are becoming.”
The Mayor acknowledged Town staff who keep the town running as well as former council members who contributed over the past 50 years.
There will be an official grand opening of the new building on Monday, June 10, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 12:30 p.m.
The public is welcome to attend this historic event.
