The Town of New Tecumseth would like to advise residents of misleading claims from individuals offering to install calcium deposit filters in their homes free of charge.
Complaints from local residents have been received regarding persons going door to door using aggressive tactics and suggesting affiliation with the Town, which is false.
Part of their pitch is that this is a government mandated fixture that needs to be installed within their homes.
Any claims of government mandated calcium fixtures are false. There are no current requirements to have a calcium deposit filter installed.
Should there be any municipal mandated items that need to be installed in your home the Town will contact you in advance to make an appointment. Any municipal staff member who visits your house will have appropriate identification.
The council and staff of New Tecumseth recommends residents exercise caution if approached by someone offering to install a free calcium deposit filter.
Some points to remember should someone knock on your door offering to sell or install something:
• Do not invite the person(s) inside
• Do not sign any documents under pressure
• If you are not interested in what the person(s) are offering or if they become aggressive, ask them to leave your property, if you are suspicious, immediately report the incident to police.
