The buses should be running between Barrie and Angus and Base Borden by August.
Essa council approved the agreement with Barrie at its last council meeting.
The specifics of the service including number and times of runs and locations for the bus shelters will set over the coming months.
“We’re going to look a variety of options in terms of where and when the buses will run but it will allow residents not only to go to Barrie but to go elsewhere in the municipality and Base Borden without a car,” said mayor Terry Dowdall.
The cost of a trip to Barrie one way will be $6 which will include a transfer to the Barrie bus service.
Both councillor Keith White from Angus and deputy mayor Sandie Macdonald said that it should provide an affordable alternative for students, at both the secondary and post-secondary level, to attend school and participate in extracurricular activities without a car and for seniors to attend medical appointments in Barrie.
“I know that it was an issue that I heard a lot about during the last election. It has been awhile since we began discussions with Barrie. Now it’s up to the people to use the service,” said Dowdall.
