Truck traffic problem not limited to Beeton

September 5, 2013   ·   0 Comments

Dear editor:

I am writing in response to the mayors letter in The Times the week of Aug 29th, 2013 regarding the truck traffic in Beeton.

In his letter he speaks of staff and elected officials speaking to local industries and trucking companies to request them to reroute traffic away from Beeton where feasible, that is a good theory but where is this traffic being rerouted to? The answer is simple. It is being rerouted further south and right through Tottenham.

There has already been one child killed by a truck in Tottenham and now not only does Tottenham have a truck turning problem at Queen and Mill st. but now has to contend with speeding trucks driving straight through town past two schools and our community centre in a rush to get to Highway 9.

The Mayor needs to wake up and realize rerouting traffic is not the answer, getting these “passing through” trucks off our roads and onto either the Townline or the 10th Sideroad might be.

School starts in a few days and there are more trucks on Tottenham Rd. than there was in June, must another serious accident or death occur before this is taken more seriously.

This truck problem is not just in Beeton.

R. Sloane, Tottenham
