The second annual 2K Fun Run and 5K Run was held on Wednesday, July 2 at Tottenham Conservation Area, called affectionately “Tottenham Pond” by locals. A slow course because of all the twists and turns through the park, gravel, sidewalks and a soggy trail paralleling the east side of the pond. And a local race it certainly was – as 85 per cent of participants were from New Tecumseth! Of the 106 participants, only five came from outside of Simcoe County.
Everyone clapped as Andrew Bearsall (with a time of 17:30) approached the 5K finish line followed by his twin brother Ben (19:22). By beating his last year’s time by one second, Andrew set a new course record. In third place, all the way from Victoria was Devin Galway (19:58).
The winning female was Charlotte Barber (22:37) from Loretto. She was followed by her sister Paige (23:59). The third place female was Nicole Hirst (26:01), who was narrowly beaten by our mayor Mike MacEachern (25:39). This was truly a family event as 23 families (including toddlers and grandparents) attended.
Tottenham Foodland provided a free BBQ and goodie bags which were much appreciated by participants and volunteers. Water and prize table items were donated by local businesses. Next year we hope to attract more runners and their families to make this community event bigger and better!
