On Wednesday July 3rd, several local non-profit agencies benefited from the sale of used clothing at the Anglican Church in Tottenham.
‘The Family Market’ is an outreach project of the Church of the Evangelists, Anglican, with volunteers from other local churches and the community.
“Through our sale of gently used clothes, we are able to distribute outreach funds twice a year to various needy families and groups who can benefit from our donations,” said Family Market Chairman Cheryl Ritchie.
“This summer the funds are going to: Mathews House Hospice, Stevenson Memorial Hospital, Tottenham Public School for the Eat Well to Excel Program, New Tecumseth Public Library – Pam Kirkpatrick Branch, New Tecumseth Fire and Rescue – Tottenham Fire Hall, Plan Canada, The Canadian Cancer Society through Relay for Life, My Sisters Place and the Vacation Bible School,” said Muriel Jackson, Family Market Co-Chairman. “The much valued volunteers who keep the Family Market running smoothly are Tex Critchlow, Henk Boomhouwer, Phil Apperley, Sterling Ivany, Bill Heron, Trisha Moore, Sheila Jaynes, Bernadette Spurling, Patti Cragg, Dorothy Harvey, Marj Duncan, Sherri Piercey, Edna Flint, Karen Mallany, Ellie Mohlman, Cheryl Ritchie and myself.”
Family Market prices remain at $4 for coats and $7 for a Foodland bag of clothing.
“It is always a bargain,” said Ritchie. “With the addition of the library we distribute all books free of charge. Please spread the word, local shopping at great prices!”
The Family Market is currently looking for donations of clean gently used clothing and books. There is a donation box at the side of the Church so bags can be dropped off at any time. Please do not drop off unwanted household items or garage sale leftovers, as these items need to be removed from the church property at the expense of the Family market – diminishing funds available to return to the community.
The Family Market is located in the Church of the Evangelists, 99 Queen Street, Tottenham.
