The County of Simcoe and County Council is extremely proud of Georgian Village, the County’s newest senior’s lifestyle community situated in the Town of Penetanguishene.
With a focus on aging-in-place, Georgian Village offers five different housing options and a range of amenities from medical care, to a pharmacy, to a hair salon – so seniors can find the services and care they need in one convenient location, at any stage of their lives.
It was a huge honour to be recognized by the Province during our grand opening of the facility last November. Since opening the doors to the campus, we have received tremendous feedback from seniors living in the facility, their families, residents from surrounding communities, County staff, and representatives from the health care industry.
County Council is grateful that this new facility is having a positive impact on our communities and seniors across our region. With any project this large, it took a dedicated team to make our vision a reality. I was extremely pleased that the County of Simcoe recently received top honours by the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) for the Georgian Village redevelopment project.
AMO awarded the County of Simcoe the prestigious Peter J. Marshall Award. The Award recognizes those municipal governments demonstrating excellence in the use of innovative approaches to improve capital and/or operating efficiency, and to generate effectiveness through alternative service delivery initiatives and partnerships. The Award’s objective is to showcase instances where Ontario municipalities have implemented and can point to tangible outcomes from new, more cost effective ways of providing public services and facilities.
The County’s submission for the Peter J. Marshall award included the following project highlights:
• LEED energy efficient aspects and design elements
• Economies of scale in operations, resulting in reductions to operating costs
• Five housing options to create self-sustainability and efficiency for residents
• Implementation of community-based outreach programs and a variety of services that include membership fees
• Partnerships with public and private sector organizations
Another important component of our submission was the Georgian Village Fundraising Campaign. Proceeds raised through County events have contributed to the creation of on-site amenities, purchasing of equipment, and improved care services at Georgian Village. The Campaign goal is to raise $807,000. We’re approaching our objective, and we sincerely thank everyone who has donated to the Campaign, however there is still work to be done.
On behalf of County Council, I am extremely proud of all our staff for helping make Georgian Village and all our projects so successful and impactful to our residents.
