Simcoe-Grey MPP Jim Wilson’s petition calling on the Liberal government to make funds available for the redevelopment of Stevenson Memorial Hospital in Alliston is receiving strong support from residents across South Simcoe.
Friday morning, Wilson was at the hospital to talk about the petition and add his name to it.
“I sent this petition out by mail to homes across South Simcoe around the week of Feb. 15 and the response so far has been fantastic,” Wilson said. “In less than two weeks we’ve collected close to 1,000 signatures and that number grows each day.”
The hospital was built in 1964 to accommodate 7,000 visits a year. Today, the number of visits sits at 36,000 annually.
“The Liberals need to get this project going. The community has waited long enough. Our community continues to grow and residents deserve the best hospital possible,” Wilson said. He thanked hospital staff and volunteers for all the work they do to provide a high level of patient care at Stevenson Memorial. Extra copies of the petition are available on Wilson’s website at
