A New Tecumseth resident was confirmed to have COVID-19 on August 21 by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit.

It’s the second recorded case in the community this month, coming from close contact, with the other one recorded August 10, that was community-acquired.

Despite the new infection, August has been a great month for New Tecumseth in its fight against COVID-19. August had the least new cases out of any month since the start of the pandemic.

Locally, six cases were recorded in July, 27 in June, 31 in May, 13 in April and six in March.

A total of 85 residents of New Tecumseth have been infected with COVID-19 and one person has passed away since March, while 82 have recovered. There’s currently one person in hospital and the other is self isolating.

The recovery rate currently sits at 96 per cent.

When looking at Simcoe Muskoka as a whole, there were 14 new cases last week, just four the week prior and seven the week before that.

The new cases bring the total number of people who have been infected to 688, while 627 of them have recovered, as of press time. This accounts for a recovery rate of 91 per cent.
