One Book One New Tecumseth brings readers together

June 24, 2021   ·   0 Comments

The New Tecumseth Public Library will again host their One Book, One New Tecumseth event to bring book and story lovers together.

This will be the sixth time the Library has held an event. It had to be cancelled last year due to the pandemic, but it is back again this year in a virtual format.

The event aims to encourage reading and contribute to the culture of adult reading in the community, create opportunities for social interaction and community development, and support life-long learning and literacy.

The Library encourages people to all read the same book, which then can be discussed.

This year the event features the suspense/thriller, Find You First, by Linwood Barclay, which has only recently been released.

“This will be our sixth time doing One Book, One New Tecumseth,” explained Kimberley Burgess, Adult Services program coordinator at the Library. “It was a big gala event that we normally hold at the Nottawasaga Resort, with up to 200 people that would come out. It was a fantastic event. We had wine and munchies, and entertainment. We’ve always had big Canadian authors. We wanted to do one in 2020 but we decided to hold off because we really wanted an in-person event.

“This year, we decided we have no idea when people will be comfortable having 200 people in a room, so we decided to move ahead with a virtual event. We get hundreds of people participating in this because not everyone can to the author night but a lot of people will just pick up the book. It generates a lot of interest in a Canadian author. This is the first time we’ve done a new book. This book just came out in May. Autho Linwood Barclay is huge – we would be getting a lot of patrons requesting his book anyway – we decided to have our program around his book. The book is a thriller with a lot of twists and turns and it’s a fun book to read.”

The event will feature the author doing a reading of his work and discussing his new book.

You can call your branch of the Library to reserve your copy of the book. Author-signed books are available for sale.

The event will take place on July 7, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
