The Alliston Hornets have moved into first place in the North Carruthers Division of the Ontario Junior Hockey League after winning their first three games of the 2025/26 season.
There is a new head coach on the Hornets’ bench this season. Dan Schaly took over the position earlier this year.
Alliston is the only team that hasn’t taken a loss so far this year.
The Hornets opened the season with a 5-0 loss to the Muskoka Bears on Sept. 12.
They followed up with a 5-1 win over the Stayer Siskins on Sept. 13.
For the third game of the season, the Hornets hosted the Penetang Kings at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre on Friday, Sept. 19.
The Hornets got the opener just 2:48 into the first period when Noah Larmon beat the Penetang goalie.
It was a 2-0 game when Will Millington scored at 6:07 into the second frame.
Penetang got on the scoreboard midway through the period.
It was a tie game when the Kings scored at 7:59 into the final period.
The Hornets finished off the night with a tie breaker from Jacob English with an insurance goal from Tristen Pitt to give the Hornets a 4-2 win.
This is a redemption year for the Hornets. Last season, the team finished the regular season in first place, winning 40 out of 42 games.
In the final division championship series in 2025, they lost to the Orillia Terries in a series that went five games and left fans stunned and wondering what happened to the team that had such a stellar season.
The Hornets will play a road game against the Huntsville Otters on Friday, Sept 28.
They will return to home ice at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre on Friday, Oct. 3, to host the Muskoka Bears.
Game time is 7:30 p.m.
