On Sept. 22, at approximately 11 a.m., members of the Nottawasaga Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a report of a disturbance at the Mill Pond Medical Centre, located at 106 Victoria Street West, New Tecumseth.
Upon arrival, officers located an elderly couple engaged in a physical altercation with a female individual. The parties were separated, and further investigation revealed that the accused had attempted to steal the couple’s idling vehicle while one of them was still seated in the passenger seat. This led to a confrontation between the vehicle owners and the accused.
As a result of the investigation, Harlee Skinner-Jackson, 30, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with the following offences:
The accused was taken into custody at the Nottawasaga OPP Detachment and was held pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice at a later time.
“The OPP would like to remind all vehicle owners never to leave their vehicles unlocked or idling unattended, even for a short period of time. Opportunistic thefts can occur in seconds and pose serious risks to public safety. Always turn off your vehicle, remove the keys, and lock the doors – even if you’re just stepping away briefly,” said Nottawasaga OPP in a press release.
