Everyone has their favourite holiday season.
For Tottenham resident Sabrina Mazzocchi, Halloween has always been a time of year she enjoys. She likes dressing up, and she’s also a fan of the spooky movies that go along with that time of year.
Although Sabrina isn’t very active on social media, her canine companion Pumba is, and through Pumba’s Instagram account, she came across a Halloween contest called the Face of Halloween. The winner will receive a cash prize and the chance to mingle with some celebrities.
The contest is sponsored by the Starlight Children’s Foundation and Rue Morgue Magazine.
The Starlight Children’s Foundation helps seriously ill children by providing things like gaming consoles, games, products, and services to make their time a little more enjoyable during a difficult situation.
Rue Morgue Magazine is a publication with stories from the dark side.
The contest is endorsed by some well-known people, including Jamie Leigh Curtis, star of the Halloween series movies.
People can vote for their favourite person in the contest.
“I don’t have an Instagram page, but I created one for my dog Pumba,” Sabrina explained. “I found the contest on there. I had to submit some writing and a couple of photos, and explain why you are a good candidate for the contest.”
Sabrina made the first few cuts in the contest. People are eliminated as the contest continues until there is a final winner.
The winner of the contest will receive a $13,000 cash prize and the chance to do some promotional work for the Starlight Children’s Foundation, with Jamie Lee Curtis, horror movie actor Kane Hodder, and horror movie director Matthew Lillard.
If she wins, Sabrina plans to use some of the funds to help local organizations, including the Alliston Humane Society, where she is an active volunteer.
“My goal, if I win, is to take a large chunk of that money and put it back into the community,” Sabrina said. “I would like to bring awareness to, and make a large donation to the Alliston Humane Society as well as some other local groups.”
Voting for group finalists in the contest will end on Thursday, Oct. 2, at 7 p.m.
One free vote can be made online, and you can also make additional votes with a donation.
