The Alliston Food Bank has launched a new Seniors’ Fresh Meal Pilot Program.
In partnership with Banting Memorial High School, this new initiative, which got underway on Thursday, Feb. 26, will provide fresh, nutritious meals prepared with care to single seniors age 55 and over in the community.
Meals will be picked up during the food bank’s regular client shopping hours. This will ensure a seamless, respectful and dignified experience for those who qualify.
The program was created with one goal in mind – to support seniors with dignity, help maintain independence, and ensure they have access to healthy, balanced meals.
With rising grocery prices and an increased cost of living, the Food Bank recognizes that many seniors are feeling the pressure of higher prices on a fixed income.
“We want them to know they are not alone,” the Alliston Food Bank stated. “Each meal represents more than just food. It represents compassion, community, and care. Together, we are supporting dignity, supporting independence, and supporting our community.”
Local high school students will be involved in the program.
“We are so grateful to Banting Memorial High School and our incredible supporters who make programs like this possible,” the Food Bank added.
You can help support this pilot program by making a donation.
