400 Blizzard treats sold in Alliston on Miracle Treat Day

The Alliston Dairy Queen store, along with other franchises across Canada and the United States, came together on Thursday, October 28, to host Miracle Treat Day (MTD).

During this annual fundraiser, 100 per cent of the net proceeds from the sale of every Blizzard treat will be donated to the Hospital for Sick Kids in Toronto, to help kids in New Tecumseth who access its services.

This year, the Alliston store sold 400 Blizzards, twice as many as usually sold at this time of the year.

“We were fully prepared, making sure that we had sufficient staff and soft serve mix to meet increased demand,” said Wannietta Kirkpatrick, Alliston DQ store manager. “Hopefully next year we can make more of event of it and then there will most definitely be more planning.”

Kirkpatrick is referring to a recent change in store ownership.

“It was an important day for all of us at DQ and we couldn’t raise the money we did without the support of our community,” said Kirkpatrick. “It takes all of us to raise money like this and we at your Alliston DQ are grateful for the support everyday from our local Fans.”

Each year, Children’s Miracle Network raises funds and awareness for 170 children’s hospitals across North America, and more than 10 million sick and injured children.

The former owner of the Tottenham Dairy Queen location, John Lockyer, who continues to operate the Orangeville, ON, location, was recognized in 2020 as a Top East Fundraiser in 2020 for his efforts to raise more than $46,000 in support of the Sick Kids. Over the past 18 years, John has raised more than $617,000 in support of sick children and their families.

“Canada is proud to honour franchisees that have gone above and beyond in their fundraising efforts and dedication to support local children’s hospitals,” said DQ. “John and his dedicated team have continued to find ways to engage their community during these trying times…Year after year John continues to be a tremendous leader for the DQ system and is a huge supporter of his local community, always challenging himself and his team to increase their fund-raising achievements.”

The DQ Grill & Chill Restaurant in Alliston is located at 2 King Street South and is open daily from 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. Reach them by calling 705-435-7261.
