The Alliston Hornets are now the only undefeated team in the Provincial Junior Hockey League after winning both of their games over the weekend.

Opening the weekend, the Hornets hosted the Innisfil Spartans at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre on Friday, Oct. 2.

The Alliston squad took command of the game in the first period, scoring four goals before Innisfil could respond with one of their own.

Hornets’ goals came from Landon Henry, Gunner Kirk, Will Hopcraft, and Tyler Jacome-Schutz. The Spartans responded with their first goal of the game, before Jonathan Beausaert scored Alliston’s final first-period goal with 3:43 left on the clock.

The Spartans got their second goal with 2:48 remaining in the first period.

The second period was a warning for the Hornets as the Spartans started scoring. By the midway mark in the period, they had tied the game 5-5.

Alliston’s Tristen Pitt and Nicholas Lamont scored to put the Hornets back in the lead with one period left to go.

Pitt got his second of the game and the only third period goal to give the Hornets an 8-5 win.

The following night, Saturday, Oct. 3, the Hornets travelled to Orillia to take on the Terriers.

This was a huge game as both teams arrived with undefeated records.

After trading goals in the first period, the game was tied 2-2.

Hornets’ goals came from Tristen Pitt and Jacob English.

The Alliston squad scored three unanswered goals in the second period to take a 5-2 lead.

Alliston goals came from Pitt, Noah Prokopec, and Benjamin Smith.

The Terriers scored early in the third period.

The Hornets responded with two goals from Smith and Pitt, who each got a hat trick for the night.

The final was a 7-3 win for the Hornets, and they now have first place all to themselves in the North Carruthers Division standings.

The Hornets will be back on home ice at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre on Friday, Oct. 9, when they will host the Stayner Siskins.

Game time is 7:30 p.m.
