The Alliston Hornets are tied for first place with the Orillia Terriers after the opening few games of the North Carruthers Division of the Provincial Junior Hockey League (PJHL).

Both Alliston and Orillia are undefeated after three games.

The Hornets had two road games over the weekend.

On Saturday, Sept. 26, the Hornets travelled to Muskoka to take on the Bears.

Gunner Kirk scored the opening goal late in the first period, giving the Alliston squad a 1-0 lead.

The Hornets took command of the game in the second period, scoring four unanswered goals.

Tristen Pitt scored two, Caleb Tucker notched a single, and Kirk got his second of the game early in the period.

Muskoka avoided the shutout with a single goal in the first period.

The Hornets left the ice with a 5-1 win.

The following day, Sunday, Sept. 27, the Hornets were in Huntsville to play the Otters.

Nicholas Lamont and Tristen Pitt scored first period goals for Alliston.

Pitt got the hat trick when he scored two second period goals.

The Otters were on the scoreboard with a single second period goal.

Nolan Caruso scored midway in the third period to give the Hornets a 5-1 lead.

Lamont got a hattrick, scoring his second and third goals of the afternoon in the final period to end the game with a 7-2 Alliston win.

It’s still too early in the season to see who is emerging as the dominant team.

However, Alliston, Orillia and Penetang have all won three games.

Last year’s division champions, the Stayner Siskins, have had a disappointing start, losing three of their first four games.

The Hornets will be back on home ice at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre on Friday, Oct. 2, where they will host the Innisfil Spartans.
