Alliston Hornets win 5-3 over Midland on the road

The Alliston Hornets picked up another two points on the road when they travelled to Midland to take on the Flyers on Friday, Jan. 6.

It was a slow start for the Alliston team after they gave up two goals to trail 2-1 at the end of the first period.

Jakob Power got the first Alliston goal of the night at 2:29 into the game.

The game was tied after Hornets player Jack Micone scored midway in the second frame for the only goal of the period.

The Flyers were in the lead again, 3-2, when they scored at 8:18 into the third period.

With 12 minutes remaining on the clock and down a goal, the Hornets got busy scoring three times to finish the game and leave the ice with a 5-3 win.

Alliston’s third-period goals came from Owen Fralick and two from Cole Turcotte.

After the weekend, the Hornets remain in second place with 41 points – that’s two points behind the first-place Stayner Siskins.

The Siskins have played 23 games – three less than the Hornets so the Alliston team will have to keep up a winning streak if they want to take over the top spot.

The Hornets had a mid-week game against the Orillia Terriers in Orillia on Tuesday, Jan. 3. That game ended in a 3-3 tie.

The Schomberg Cougars are in third place in the North Carruthers Division with 31 points.

The Innisfil Spartans are in fourth, followed by the Orillia Terriers and the Huntsville Otters.

Alliston forward, Jack Micone leads the team in points with 46 recorded so far. That’s 17 goals and 29 assists.

Cole Turcotte is also having a good season recording 42 points as of the weekend with 20 goals and 22 assists.

The Hornets will be back on home ice at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre on Friday, Jan. 13, when they will host the Caledon Golden Hawks.

Game time is 7:30 p.m.

They will also have a mid-week home game when they take on the Innisfil Spartans on Wednesday, Jan. 18.

That game has a 7:30 p.m. start.
