The Alliston Junior C Hornets came out on top when they won the 14th Annual Alliston Hornets Pre-Season PJHL Hockey Tournament.
The Tournament got underway on Friday, September 9, at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre.
Fourteen Junior C teams were entered in this year’s tournament.
The NTRC hosted five games on opening night, then ran the full day on Saturday as teams battled it out to advance in competition.
The Hornets went undefeated for the weekend.
They opened with a 4-0 win over the Penetang Kings on Friday evening.
On Saturday, the Alliston squad met the Hespeler Shamrocks with a 12:00 p.m. start. They won that game blanking the Hespeler team 3-0.
Later in the day, the Hornets were up against the Port Perry MoJacks and left the ice with a 4-2 win. The win advanced Alliston to the semi-final round and they dispatched the Uxbridge Bruins 7-2 to earn the right to advance to the final game.
The Hornets were up against the Stayner Siskins in the final game. The Siskins knocked out the Little Britain Merchants 2-1 in their semi-final game.
In the final, the teams battled to a 2-2 tie at the end of the third period to force an overtime period to determine the winner.
The Hornets scored to win 3-2 and claim the tournament championship.
