Jouko Vahakuopus of Alliston is celebrating after winning $100,000 with ENCORE in the Oct. 8, Ontario 49 draw.
“I checked my numbers the day after the draw,” shared Jouko while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto where he picked up his winnings. “I went to a nearby store and scanned my ticket at the ticket checker. I didn’t have my glasses on so I couldn’t make out what was flashing on the screen.”
Jouko handed his ticket to the retailer for validation. “As soon as the ticket was fed into the machine, the words ‘Big Winner’ flashed on the screen. The retailer was very happy for me and said that OLG will be calling the store shortly to speak with me. That is when I found out I won $100,000!”
Excited to share his news, Jouko headed home to tell his wife. “I said, ‘We won $100,000!’ but she didn’t believe me. I had to show her the validation slip and she was speechless. I have no words to describe how happy we both felt.”
Jouko has big plans for his windfall. “Right away, we will be buying a second car and looking for a bigger home. We are also making plans to travel to Nashville next summer. My wife and I are big country music fans,” concluded Jouko.
ENCORE can be played in conjunction with most online lottery games for an extra $1. There is an ENCORE draw every day.
The winning ticket was purchased at Esso on Highway 400 south in Maple.
