Annual Totten-Hug goes virtual this weekend

February 24, 2022   ·   0 Comments

The annual Totten-Hug is back this year as residents join together in a local celebration that was inspired to “do something nice for the community.”

Due to the current pandemic situation, the actual physical get-together won’t take place, but it will still continue in a virtual format and will feature on-line entertainment.

“The very first one was just a big hug with over 100 people,” explained organizer Darrin McCutcheon. “By the second year we had moved over the Legion and we had live entertainment, sponsorships, and light refreshment. We wanted to incorporate music into it and doing it virtually.”

The pandemic has made gathering in public impossible this year, so organizers decided to take the celebration on-line to keep the event alive.

This year the event will be live via a Facebook group that will feature several local performers.

“The artists will broadcast live on Facebook,” Mr. McCutcheon explained. “If someone wants to participate, they can join the group. We’re supporting the food banks in both Tottenham and Alliston – this is really a New Tecumseth event not just Tottenham. If someone wants to participate and watch the concerts, we encourage them to make whatever donation they can to the food bank.”

The event will kick-off on Friday, February 25, at 7:00 p.m. with local musician, Sean Bourke starting things off with a line-up of Southern Rock and Country.

He will be followed by the band, Chronic Pain, featuring rock, pop, and classic rock, at 8:30 p.m.

On Saturday, February 26, the music will get underway at 3:00 p.m. with Duality, and music from the 60s to the 80s.

At 7:00 p.m. Southern Gentlemen will perform their mix of classic and south rock.

At 8:30 p.m., That 80’s Thing will perform 80s themed rock and pop.

You can be a part of it all by joining the Facebook page, and searching for Totten Hug, or follow the link at facebook.com/groups/1280372462460098/?ref=share.
