Attempted murder charge laid against Barrie man following targeted attack in Bradford

A Barrie man is facing multiple criminal charges, including attempted murder, following a targeted incident in Bradford West Gwillimbury.

On the evening of Aug. 6, South Simcoe Police officers responded to a report of a person who had been intentionally struck by a vehicle in a residential neighbourhood in Bradford. Officers attended the scene and located the victim, who was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation determined that the incident was targeted and that the victim and the accused were known to one another.

As a result of the investigation, a 42-year-old Barrie man was arrested and charged with:

  • Attempted Murder – Section 239(1)(b) of the Criminal Code
  • Assault with a Weapon – Section 267(a) of the Criminal Code
  • Criminal Harassment – Section 264(1) of the Criminal Code
  • Uttering Threats – Section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
  • Dangerous Operation – Section 320.13(1) of the Criminal Code

The accused was held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 12.

This was an isolated, targeted incident and there is no threat to public safety.

None of the listed charges have been tested in court.
