The Banting Memorial High School Marauders senior girls’ flag football team is having a stellar season after going undefeated in six regular-season games.

The team has averaged just over 35 points per game. In five of their regular-season games, they blanked their opponents and didn’t allow a point to be scored against them.

They are in first place in the SCAA AAA standings. The Marauders are two points ahead of the second-place team from Maple Ridge Secondary School, but Maple Ridge has scored less than half the number of points that Banting has tallied through the season.

Banting was up against the team from Stayner Collegiate on the field at Banting on Tuesday, Oct. 14.

The Marauders did a great job of advancing down the field with well-thrown passes that hit the mark almost every time.

By the half, the Banting teams were leading 28-8. They kept up the pressure for the entire game and left the field with a 48-0 win for their sixth victory of the season.

“We’re feeling pretty hyped,” said Banting’s Bree Yanni after the win. “It’s the fourth year for our senior players. Our mood is to just have fun. We’re always out there having fun.”

Many of the senior players have been on the team for their entire high school career.

“We listen to each other on the field,” Bree said. “We have good plays and good coaches. We have a lot of good athletes on the team. On defence, we communicate really well, and we know where we are on the field at all times and what each position does.

The team will now head into the playoffs with their first two games scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 23. If they are successful, they will go to the championship.

“We’re off for the week, then next week we’ll have a practice,” Bree said.

The SCAA championship will take place the following week.
