Beeton Lawn Bowling Club benefits from Ontario Trillium Grant

After 94 years as a local club in Beeton, the Beeton Lawn Bowling Club has been well maintained and has provided a lot of fun and activity for local residents.

However, after almost a century, the club was in need of some repairs.

The Club applied for an Ontario Trillium Grant and was awarded a $13,400 capital grant.

Executive Assistant & Manager of Constituency Initiatives, Cathy Law, representing MPP Brian Saunderson’s office, made the official presentation to the Club on Thursday, Sept. 10.

The funds will be used to provide upgrades to an aging electrical system in both the clubhouse and equipment shed buildings. The upgrades will provide more efficient and safer electrical feeds as well as brighter building facilities.

“The impact of the Ontario Trillium Foundation grant cannot be overstated,” said Robert Foster, club president. 

“The 2026 grant supported the purchase of required upgrades to the electrical system and lighting, and greens equipment. Several previous OTF grants have given us funds to do such things as install an irrigation system necessary in today’s climate.”

Foster added, “Good green playing conditions are the club’s main asset, without which there would be no lawn bowling club. Other OTF grants over the years have provided greens lighting, an irrigation system, renovated washrooms and replacement of old playing equipment.”

The club acknowledged the support it receives from the town and its members.

“The Beeton Lawn Bowling Club’s continued presence in the community is in part, due to the excellent relationship and support of the Town of New Tecumseth,” Foster said. “In addition, a key contributor to the club’s continuing success is our volunteers. Our club is run solely by volunteers who provide in excess of 600 man-hours annually.”

The club has received several Trillium Grants over the years, which have all made valuable contributions to the club’s upkeep.

“We applied for this grant in February and were approved in July,” explained club grant coordinator, Walton Prime. “What this grant is for, is to replace all of our electrical service here – it is all being upgraded. Also, our equipment shed needs to be upgraded.”

New Tecumseth Mayor Richard Norcross, who is a big supporter of the Club, attended the presentation.

“The Beeton Lawn Bowling Club has been a valued part of our community for an incredible 94 years, bringing people together through friendship, sport and tradition,” Norcross said. “This Ontario Trillium Foundation grant is a wonderful investment in the club’s future, helping ensure this community treasure can continue to welcome residents of all ages for many years to come.”

Last year, the Ontario Trillium Foundation invested over $110 million into 1,022 community projects and partnerships across the province.
