A local teen from Beeton has made an international splash by being crowned Miss Teenager Universe 2025.
Sofya Jordan, 15, was given the honour at the pageant, which took place in Panama with the final event and winner being chosen on Saturday, Aug. 2.
Chosen by the international pageant organization IPEN to represent Canada, Sofya competed against top contestants from different countries, including Panama, Bolivia, Colombia, and Argentina.
Sofya is the first Canadian to bring home this title.
During the question period in the pageant, Sofya was asked about tourism in Canada and where she would recommend tourists to visit.
Sofya recommended Alberta as a beautiful place for visitors.
“One place I would recommend going if you ever want to visit Canada, is Alberta,” Sofya said to the judges. “I visited and there were glaciers. Another place I would recommend is the heart of Ontario, where I live – Toronto. It is a very big city and there are many things to see, including shopping, and the people there are very nice.”
When asked who her role model was, Sofya said, “My role model would be Louise Freeman, the first coloured woman in Canada to compete in a beauty competition. I find it really inspiring as a woman who put herself out there despite discrimination and advocated for what she believed in.”
Sofya participated in the Alliston Potato Festival Parade as an ambassador and was cheered on by people along the parade route.
