The Alliston Business Improvement Association (Alliston BIA) hosted its annual RURBAN Christmas Crawl in the downtown core over the past weekend (November 26 & 27) with more than 35 businesses taking part.
This annual shopping event incorporates festive fun with holiday music, in-store open house events and sales, caroling by the Sugartones, selfie stations, food and product samples, holiday specialty giveaways, prize draws, pop-up fashion shows and a chance to pick up some amazing deals while you check off everyone on your gift giving list.
Similar to a pub crawl – but with shopping – the ABIA Christmas Crawl is the premiere event each Christmas in Alliston.
“We love to see everyone strolling along in our downtown and slipping in and out of our boutique shops while they meet with business owners and staff to pick up some awesome holiday deals!” said Alliston BIA General Manager Linda Spurr. “It is truly is a festive, boutique shopping experience.”
Some of the highlights from the 2021 event included: a pop up fashion show at Barb’s Clothes Closet, giveaways, food samples and kid’s crafts at Concession Road Mercantile, save the tax and flash sales at many participating stores such as Copper Bowl Studio, festive cocktails at some restaurants including Peake BBQ and Boston Pizza, fifty per cent off select engagement rings at Taylor’s Jewellers and open house events at The Beach House Spa.
“The Alliston BIA hosts this RURBAN (the best of all things rural and urban combined) event in support of the local ABIA business community and to create a fun holiday experience,” Spurr told The Times. “While everyone is invited and it appeals to the whole family, this one is specifically for the young at heart shoppers. We had a lot of adults say it is a chance to get out and connect as couples, with friends, and neighbours while enjoying a weekend of shopping, dining and holiday drinks.”
The Alliston BIA’s Board of Directors are volunteers who either own buildings in Alliston or operate a business in the Alliston BIA’s catchment area.
“We work as a team to support our Alliston BIA members, for the betterment of our downtown area, and our local economic development,” said Spurr. “All of our RURBAN events are funded and supported by the Alliston BIA members and we are proud to bring each event to our community. We appreciate the support of our community and ask that you continue to shop local as you complete your holiday shopping. This holiday season, give the gift of local, it helps everyone.”
