With February being Black History Month, a Tottenham resident decided to create a celebration for all to enjoy at the Tottenham Community Centre on Sunday, Feb. 19.
Local resident, Janet Othman, organized the event and brought music, food, and culture to the party.
Janet thought it was a good opportunity to bring some extra culture to town.
“This is a Tottenham Black History Month celebration,” Janet explained. “There’s a lot of diversity here now. A lot of blacks are moving into the area. We want to let them know what we have here in cuisine and the way of living.”
Janet moved to Tottenham in 2020.
“We have some displays of African and Jamaican culture, as well as artifacts, and sampling of Caribbean cuisine. We have give-away door prizes and some performances as well. There’s going to be some great entertainment.”
The event allowed guests to sample some Caribbean food as well as hear some live performances from Andrea Knight and Juno Award winner Nana McLean.
Several local dignitaries also arrived to be part of the fun and welcome guests to the event.
Black History Month is celebrated across North America, with several events being held across the region.
