The Blackhorse Village Players theatre has announced the cancellation of the 2026/27 theatre season.
There were four plays in the line-up this year in a season that runs from mid-October through to mid-June.
These included two comedies by Norm Foster,  titled ‘The Writer’ and ‘Old Love.’
A stage adaptation of the movie ‘Steel Magnolias’ was scheduled for March, with a comedy titled ‘Foolish Fishgirls and the Pearl’ by Barbara Pease Weber slated for June.
The theatre made the announcement that the current season was being cancelled on Oct. 12.
The theatre issued this statement on its website: “Due to unfortunate circumstances the Board of Directors for The Blackhorse Village Players Theatre has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2026-2027 theatre season.”

The statement continued, “All season subscribers and ticket holders have now been notified and will be reimbursed for their purchases. Contracts with royalty holders have been rescinded. Notices to the cast and crew of the first two productions, and to the directors of the last productions, have all been sent. We thank our patrons for their continued support of BVP [Blackhorse Village Players] over the last 55 theatre seasons.”

The theatre was entering its 56th year of offering community theatre and attracted patrons from a lot of different towns around the region.
Offering a lot of different positions in theatre, Blackhorse had volunteer actors and behind-the-scenes people from many different areas.
The theatre has had a difficult few years. Ticket sales have dropped, even though production values have remained the same.
In addition, the building needs repairs and upgrades. The theatre marquee was damaged in a storm and has since been removed.
The Blackhorse Village Players have been a popular place to see a play for half a century
Theatre executives have a meeting planned in November to discuss the state of the theatre and it’s future.
Once that meeting has taken place, they will issue a statement regarding the future of the theatre.
