It’s time to get out on the diamond for some practice and shake off the winter rust for teams in the North Dufferin Baseball League (NBDL) line-up this season.

The baseball schedule won’t start for another month but spring training is always an important part of playing the sport.

Teams will be out on the diamond having batting a fielding practice and just getting back into play mode after eight months of the off-season.

The NDBL has an exciting line-up for this year’s season as teams from around the region get ready to battle it out for the league championship.

There are some new developments in both the junior and senior divisions this year.

In the Junior Division, there are seven teams this season.

New to the division are the Bradford Tigers who are making their NDL junior debut.

The Innisfil Cardinals have two teams entered this season.

Also entered this year are the Barrie Baycats, Creemore Padres, Orillia Royals, and the Richmond Hill Phoenix.

The Mansfield Cubs do not have a team in the Junior Division this year.

The Creemore Padres are the defending Andreson Cup Junior Division champions.

It is an 18-game regular season schedule for the Junior Division.

The junior schedule will get underway on May 8, with the first game between Orillia and Creemore on Orillia’s home diamond.

In the Senior Division, there is a full line-up this year with 12 teams entered into competition.

The Caledon Cardinals are new to the league this year.

Returning teams include the Mansfield Cubs, Barrie Angels, Bolton Brewers, Clarksburg Blues, Creemore Padres, Ivy Rangers, Lisle Astros, Midland Mariners, New Lowell Knights, Orillia Majors, and Owen Sound Baysox.

The Baysox are the defending Strother Cup senior championship team and will be looking to defend their title this year.

Senior Division teams will play a 22-game regular season schedule before moving into the playoffs.

The senior season gets underway on May 5, with the first game being played between the Mansfield Cubs and the Lisle Astros in Lisle.

It’s going to be an exciting year for the NDBL once the season gets underway and the crack of the bat is heard at local parks.
