The Tec We Gwill Women’s Institute has a unique way of raising funds in support of women’s health.
The women’s institute has been collecting bras at various locations. Gently used or new bras are accepted.
At the end of the initiative, they will be weighed and the women’s institute will give a cash donation to local causes.
Last year, they managed to collect 400 lbs of bras and they donated $200 to Stevenson Memorial Hospital and Southlake Health Care Centre for mammograms and the women’s wellness centre.
The bras are then donated locally to the Clothes Line in Alliston, a community thrift store operated by CONTACT Community Services.
This helps local women, especially the local women’s shelters.
The women’s institute has been collecting the bras through October and will continue to do so until the end of the month.
You can contribute by depositing your new or gently used bras in plastic bags, at the Bra Bank.
The banks are located in the change rooms at the Tottenham Recreation Centre, the Bradford Recreation Centre, and at the ladies’ washroom at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre.
