On Thursday, Sept. 29, CLASS (Community Living Association for South Simcoe) celebrated its 60th anniversary at the Gibson Centre for Arts and Culture in Alliston.

The three-hour event was a chance for CLASS’s clients, personal support workers, family members and supporters to gather for a fun evening – complete with food, raffle prizes and an art display.

Emceed by Ward 2 Councillor and CLASS support worker, Michael Beattie, with a special appearance from New Tecumseth Mayor Rick Milne and Ward 5 Councillor Donna Jebb, the drop-in style event packed the house at the Gibson, taking up the entire main floor and the Honda Performance Hall.

Catered by Jeffrey of Casual Catering, appetizers for the event were donated, as was the event space through the Gibson’s charitable rental program.

Desserts, offered as part of the buffet style food service, were homemade and provided by the staff at CLASS.

“A special thank you to Diane and Natasha who pulled the Art Show together,” said Barbara Barta, Marketing and Communications Manager for CLASS, “and to Mobile Vibe Productions for the fun photo booth.”

Throughout the evening a rotating photo video of CLASS through the years played in the Honda Performance Hall and raffle tickets for a 50/50 draw were sold (winners’ name had not yet been announced at press time). Dog cookies were also on sale, and all participants at the event were entered into a draw to win an iPad.

DJ Richard Tapp provided the music for dancing, and what a party it was.

CLASS has been serving the areas of New Tecumseth, Essa, Adjala–Tosorontio, and parts of Bradford-West Gwillimbury and Innisfil since 1962, and supports people with developmental disabilities. CLASS is a non-profit, charitable organization governed by a volunteer board of directors that receives funding from the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services along with additional donations and fundraising efforts to offer its programs and services.
