CONTACT Community Services has announced the Seniors Living Sell Program for the fall and winter seasons.
CONTACT recognizes how integral seniors are to the overall well-being of communities. Their mental and physical health is important for the overall wellness of both the older adult and their family members. CONTACT is committed to seniors in the South Simcoe communities and is excited to roll out its latest program, focusing on connection and fun.
The program will be a comprehensive selection of entertaining and informative free seniors programming through South Simcoe. Drumming, creative arts, harmonica lessons and cooking classes are just a few of the planned events.
Based on the seniors’ selection, complimentary movies at the local theatre will also be offered in New Tecumseth. This project is funded by the Ontario Seniors Community Grant.
“Offering programming that is free is critical as so many older adults in our communities are on a fixed or low income,” said executive director Emily McIntosh. “Often, social activities that foster community connection are not available to them, but we know they are a critical component to a basic quality of life.”
Various sessions throughout South Simcoe will offer seniors something unique to do while meeting new people in the community with similar interests. The organization will also support transportation costs for those who may need support but have the desire to attend.
“In a post-pandemic context, we know that people want to connect with each other in person,” said development and engagement officer Brenda Pufek. “We are thrilled to be able to reduce barriers to participation by ensuring everyone that wants to attend, in fact can.”
The creative fundamentals of these activities directly develop and enhance seniors’ inventiveness, and seniors’ health will also benefit through socialization with others while learning new ways to live well and keep connected with those they love.
The Seniors Living Well Program will have a long-lasting and positive impact on the senior population by providing social engagement, personal growth, and a creative outlet in a group setting.
