Copper Bowl Studio hosts grand opening

One of Alliston’s newest businesses held a grand opening on Tuesday, June 22, to welcome customers and invite the public to see their full line-up of textiles, clothing, jewellery, and hand- crafted items from local artisans.

Much of the merchandise at Copper Bowl Studio is crafted in India – a country that owner Michelle Joyce has a connection with.

“The store is a purpose-driven company,” Michelle explained. “Everything here is direct trade and fair trade. We don’t deal with any large manufacturers. All the textiles here are made in India and we promote and work with small collectives in India to help the artisans. A lot of techniques used here are old ancient techniques that have continued on through history. A lot of the blankets here are made from re-purposed sari silk. Some of these items can take almost a whole community to make and they all share in the making of a quilt. A lot of this is very old in tradition in India. Everything is ethically sourced.”

In addition to clothing and textiles the store has items from local artisans.

“We also work with local artisans,” Michelle said. “We have different items and we work with and support local people. We have soaps and cleaning supplies so we have local products here as well.”

Unique to the shop is a line of jewellery that is designed specifically for the store.

Asad Khan and Zafar Khan of Fixmen Jewellery are jewellery designers and craftsmen who create a line that is only available at the Copper Bowl Studio. There is a full array of rings, bracelets, and other beautifully crafted jewellery on display.

Copper Bowl Studio is open six days a week at their Victoria St. West location.
