Town council is seeking public input during its January 19 budget meeting.
The meeting will start at 6:00 p.m. in council chambers at the administration building on Wellington Street. If you cannot attend in person, the meeting will be live streamed on the Town of New Tecumseth’s YouTube Channel.
The previous town council presented a long-range plan that projected a double-digit tax increase of just over 13 per cent for 2023, with an 18 per cent raise in water rates and a 17 per cent raise in wastewater rates.
That plan is subject to change as this new council debates the plan and spending priorities for the next year.
Mayor Richard Norcross has previously said he would not support a budget that has a tax hike of that size. Input from the public will be taken into consideration during the January 19 budget meeting.
The $20 million project to build the town’s new administration centre is being closely scrutinized as the project is behind schedule and was the source of a lot of conflict in the town when it was decided to go forward.
Information regarding New Tecumseth’s long-range financial plan can be found on the town’s website.
