County reports increase in transit ridership

The County of Simcoe is reporting a significant increase in people using the LINX Transit system.

In 2023, LINX completed its fifth year of operation in which it experienced consistent ridership growth and improvements in conventional and specialized transit services

Conventional ridership saw an increase of 23 per cent while specialized routes increased by 33 per cent. There was a noted surge in specialized transit applications over the previous year.

LINX has had a strong safety performance and a high level of service reliability for 2023.

LINX Transit’s strategic plan includes developing new routes, increasing service, and introducing initiatives to make transit services more efficient, reliable, and responsive to the evolving needs of the residents in the County ridership.

Quarterly and total ridership numbers exceeded expectations with all routes having a consistent upward trend throughout the year.

Total ridership numbers in 2023 were 258,948.

By route, ridership numbers are:

Route 1 – Barrie to Penetanguishene 39,918

Route 2 – Barrie to Wasaga Beach 42,949

Route 3 – Barrie to Orillia 50,209

Route 4 – Collingwood to Wasaga Beach 82,617

Route 5 – Alliston to Bradford 20,851

Route 6 – Midland to Orillia 22,404
