In collaboration with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, Stevenson Memorial Hospital has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at its medical and surgical inpatient unit.
The outbreak includes five patients who have tested positive while receiving care at the hospital.
All close contacts have been notified, and enhanced cleaning has been implemented, along with additional infection prevention and control measures. This includes further COVID-19 testing.
The Unit is closed to visitation at this time unless there are extenuating circumstances.
Currently, the Public Health Unit has issued a ‘moderate’ risk of contracting COVID-19 for the general public within the region. This is the same risk level that was issued the previous week.
Risk of infection and severe illness increases as community, personal and situational risk increases.
The Health Unit recommends multiple layers of protection to reduce the risk of illness, including staying at home if you have symptoms, wearing a well-fitted three-layer or medical mask in indoor public places, and staying up to date with all COVID-10 vaccinations.
