Creador Candles brings all-natural soy wax to Tottenham

You probably know some candles are made from paraffin and others use beeswax, but were you aware there is also soy wax that makes an excellent candle?

Michelle Creador of the Creador Candle Co. is a Tottenham resident who makes soy wax candles infused with a variety of scents designed to make your entire home smell good.

Michelle brought her candles to the Tottenham Vendor and Farmer’s Market on Sunday, July 7.

“These candles are all soy wax and hand poured,” Michelle explained. “The most made and bought candles are paraffin wax, but they are more on the toxic side. Soy wax is naturally produced. Because I make many different scents, I have to use two pouring pots, and then you have to make sure you measure by weight of the wax and fragrance oil. So there’s a percentage you want to follow. Typically, I used the higher end of the fragrance. The main thing I’ve gotten from feedback from my customers, is the majority of houses are built as an open concept, so when you use a higher fragrance load percentage, it carries through the house much better.”

Michelle creates candles with a variety of scents like Summer Sippin, Berry Peachy, Beach Club, and Citrus Sage.

“I use fragrance oils instead of essential oils,” Michelle explained. “Essential oils aren’t as strong.”

Becoming a candle maker is something that Michelle fell into almost by accident.

She resigned from her job to take care of her children at home. With time at home, she began exploring possibilities. She found candle-making to be both interesting and a viable business.

“There is a lot of research and testing that goes into it,” Michelle said. “It comes down to the science of making it. You have to make sure to make it at the exact right temperature, you have to cool it down and pour it and mix in the oils at the right temperature. There was a lot of studying and practice.”

Michelle’s candles have become very popular and people love to use them to create a nice scent in the home.

Michelle sells her candles through Creador Candle Co. at local markets as well as online through Shopify.
