The Junior Division of the North Dufferin Baseball League will pit the Creemore Padres against the Mansfield Cubs in the championship final series.
The final series got underway on Tuesday, August 16, in Creemore and is scheduled to go to August 24, if the full slate of games needs to be played.
Creemore has had a bit of a Cinderella story this season.
After finishing dead last in the regular season and winning only one game all year, the Padres had a huge upset winning their first round series over the first place Caledon Nationals, then went on to defeat the Orillia Royals in the second round of competition.
The Mansfield Cubs finished the regular season in third place.
They eliminated the Barrie Baycats in the first round.
The second round had Mansfield up against the Georgina Bulldogs. The Cubs won Game One of that series with a walk-off home run.
They eliminated the Bulldogs in Game Two – also with a walk-off situation when a Cubs player stole second base in the bottom of the second inning.
The game did not have a sportsmanlike conclusion when one of the Georgina coaches stormed the diamond and accused the umpire of making bad calls. After throwing some expletives at the ump, he was ejected from the game.
The best-of-five final series will wrap up by August 24, if all five games have to be played.
