Driver in Alliston strikes 7-year-old with vehicle and flees the scene

Nottawasaga Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers are investigating a motor vehicle collision involving a young child in New Tecumseth on Aug. 9.

Shortly before 11 p.m., officers responded to an emergency call regarding a motor vehicle that had struck a pedestrian and fled the scene on Church Street South in Alliston. The pedestrian, a 7-year-old, was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Officers located the suspect vehicle shortly after on Industrial Parkway.

As a result of their investigation, Matthew Zadran, 19, of Alliston, was charged with the following:

  • Failure to stop after accident
  • Dangerous operation
  • Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court (two counts)
  • Assault with a Weapon (three counts)
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Drive motor vehicle – Perform stunt
  • Uttering Threats – Cause death or Bodily Harm

A 16-year-old youth from Bradford (name withheld under the Youth Criminal Justice Act) was charged with the following:

  • Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court (two counts)

Both accused parties were held in custody for a bail hearing at a later time. 

None of the listed charges have been proven in court.
