The TNT Express Bantam team ended the regular season with a third place finish after ending the regular season with a win over the visiting Toronto Jets at Mel Mitchell Field in Beeton on July 24.
The Express started off strong in Sunday’s game with two touchdowns from Jagger Horst and a one point convert from Joshua Gill.
TNT scored again after making it to the 20-yard line. Jett Horst ran wide to score and give the Express a 20-0 lead.
The Express where again in good field position when Oliver Rapin snagged a Toronto pass for an interception and returned the ball for 30 yards to the 18-yard line.
Cory Akerfeldt scored on the next play to make it a 26-0 game to start the second quarter.
With Toronto in possession of the ball, the Express defence dug in and held the line with good stopping power from Owen Cliff, Calum Muncey, Luca Facchini, and Jacob Schnitzer.
The half ended with quarterback Michael Rabiega caught in the back field. He decided to run and made it for a 20-yard gain.
The game final was 55-14 for the Express.
The win leaves the TNT team with a 5-2 record for the season and a third place finish.
One scheduled game was postponed and won’t be played after a scheduling mix-up left the teams without referees for the game.
With the top four teams going to the playoffs, the Express should be up against the second place Orangeville Outlaws for the first round.
The Clarington Knights finished the regular season in first place with an undefeated 8-0 record and will be the team to beat this season.
Orangeville landed in second place in the Bantam division with a 6-1 record.
The North Bay Bulldogs finished in fourth place with a 5-3 record.
