The TNT Express Bantams won their second game of the season with a 34-6 win over the Hamilton Jr. Tiger Cats on Sunday, June 12, at Mel Mitchell field in Beeton.
It didn’t take long of the Express to get on the scoreboard when Jagger Horst scored early in the first quarter.
Horst got his second TD of the game mid-way in the quarter when he ran wide to cross the goal and give the Express a 12-point lead.
Cory Akerfeldt followed up with a two-point convert.
Late in the quarter the Express dug in and a strong defensive line held by Blake Williams, Owen Cliff, Landon Altamirano, Joshua Gill, and Daniel Sheridan, stopped the Tiger Cats from gaining any yards on the field.
Gill recovered a Hamilton fumble for the turnover.
The second quarter started with a huge run by Mark Arizza for a first down. Cory Akerfeldt followed up with a 40-yard sprint to give the Express 20-0 lead.
Late in the quarter the Express again put up a solid defence with Nathan Monserrate and Dylan Mosquera making solid stops.
The second half got under way with Hamilton pinned deep in their own end.
With no scoring in the third quarter the teams switched ends for the final quarter. After a Tiger Cats fumble and a TNT recovery, the Express started on the 12 yard line and Jett Horst scored to give the TNT team a 26-point total.
Akerfeldt got his second of the game with a 60-yard sprint to score.
The game ended with a Hamilton pass interception by Joshua Gill with just over a minute left on the clock.
The Express Bantams will have four road games before returning to their home field at Mel Mitchell on Sunday, July 24.
They will host the Toronto Jets with an 11:30 a.m. start.
