Fire danger rating raised to ‘high’ for New Tecumseth

The fire danger rating has been moved to high for New Tecumseth and several other municipalities in the region.
The move from moderate to high came into effect on July 16.
After a period of hot, dry weather, there is an increased risk of fire, with things like grass and debris being a possible ignition source.
The threat is compounded under windy conditions.
Residents are urged to use extreme caution when burning and follow the Open Air Burning bylaw requirements.
Of 20 municipalities in Simcoe County, seven have a rating of moderate, 12 have a rating of high and one municipality, Tiny Township, has a rating of extreme.
The Muskoka Region also has an extreme rating.
Municipalities with an extreme rating now have a complete fire ban in effect, meaning no outdoor fires are allowed under any circumstances.
Under the current conditions, a fire can easily spread, causing a risk of property damage, personal injury or death.
Residents should be aware of current fire ratings and follow all instructions and bylaws.
